Abstract

The article shows how analytic philosophy, having severely discredited metaphysical problems as lacking meaning, recovered such issues, occasionally promoting them to the centre of attention in the supposedly most serious circles.
Discussion of modality played a leading role in this transformation. It is shown how a metaphysically oriented thinker such as Nicolai Hartmann summons logic to regain its place in philosophy by studying modalities and, in his turn, an analytical thinker such as Saul Kripke regains metaphysical problems through a modal logic approach.
