Concerning a debate on mind and artificial intelligence

Abstract

When information processing machines capable of complex performance appear, there emerges the question of the possibility of their being programmed for intelligent, humanlike behaviour. This paper considers some problems concerning such a possibility.
The argument is deployed at the level of meaning and, as usual, mental experiments are involved.
