Abstract
This article explores the concept of norm in Canguilhem and Foucault; this is a central topic in the thought of both authors. Although Foucault continued the critical analisys developed by Canguilhem, it is possible to mark some differences. For both thinkers the norm is related with life. But while Canguilhem refers to the norm, the normativity, as an individual’s capacity to relate with the environment where they live, Foucault conceives it as the way to ensure the exercise of power over the individual and the population. This shift from the norm understood in a biological sense (Canguilhem) to the norm in a political sense (Foucault) is what we want to develop in this work.
